Glossary

I mention a lot of terms in my articles. Here's a reference that I'll link to throughout my writings.


ARR

aka: "annual recurring revenue". Indicates how much money you're making each year from subscriptions. Ex. 10 subscribers @ $50 per month x 12 months = $6000 ARR

Bootstrapped

A business funded through your own bank account and grown through profit instead of investment

Bootstrapper

Someone who builds a bootstrapped business

Bootstrapping

Building a business by funding it through your own bank account and growing it through revenue instead of investment

Indiehacker

Another term for bootstrapper essentially (I generally associate this with an earlier stage bootstrapper. Below $10k MRR)

Maker

Someone who makes things (with software in this context)

MRR

aka:"monthly recurring revenue". Indicates how much money you're making each month from subscriptions. Ex. 10 subscribers @ $50 per month = $500 MRR

Self-funded

A business that's not taking (or planning on taking) venture capital.

Solopreneur

A bootstrapper building a business without another cofounder.

Minecraft Server

A shared Minecraft world that you can tweak to make the gamemode function any way you'd like.

Mindstorms

Lego Mindstorms are robots you can program with a visual editor and build with entirely with legos. They have motors, sensors, and can even be controlled through a controller. I grew up building many things with these.
