The app I built for cross-country skiers

Cross-country skiing has a funny information problem. Whether a trail is worth driving to depends on conditions that change by the hour, and the people who actually know are already out on the trail.

So in late 2019 I started building Skiwise. The idea was to connect skiers with each other so they could share trail conditions, weather changes, and events happening nearby.

It turned into the biggest project I'd taken on. Roughly 700 hours of work over nine months, shipped on iOS, Android, and the web. Today it's the #1 app for cross-country skiers with over 15,000 users and a 4.5 star rating on iOS. It even got written up in the Duluth Tribune, which was a wild thing to see as a solo developer.

I wrote a much longer breakdown of how the whole thing got built in The 9 Month Solo Development Journey of Skiwise if you want the full story.

You can check out the app at skiwise-app.com.
